Summary:
The Student Administrative Assistant will support the Facilities and Operations functions of the School of Public Affairs Dean’s Office. The student will assist with basic office support, handle front-desk operations, and help maintain the efficiency of building-wide services. The student worker must wear appropriate attire while working at front desk. All undergrad AU students with Federal Work Study award are eligible to apply for this position, with a preference for those students in SPA.
Essential Functions:
- Staff the Kerwin Lobby front desk during scheduled shifts.
- Utilize the SPA Operations email and ticketing system to manage and respond to service requests.
- Perform general administrative duties including scanning, copying, and printing.
- Answer and route calls from the SPA main phone line.
- Schedule and manage bookings for local conference rooms.
- Pick up and deliver mail to and from SPA departments as scheduled.
- Deliver supplies to departments and offices.
- Stock supplies.
- Assist with student advising in-person and virtual appointments and walk-ins.
- Direct students to appropriate services or contacts.
- Support any special projects or tasks assigned by the Facilities and Operations Coordinator.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Part-time.
- 15 - 30 hours per week.
Salary Range:
- $18.40 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
- Current American University student in good academic standing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Professional demeanor with a customer-service mindset.
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential information appropriately.
- Willingness to learn internal systems (e.g., ticketing, scheduling tools).
- Independent and critical thinking required.
- Know Microsoft Office 365.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Previous office or customer service experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, Canva, and Adobe is preferred.
- Be able to work all summer (approximately Monday, May 11th – Friday, August 21st).
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- This position is available only to enrolled American University students.
- Please list all computer related knowledge.
- Federal Work Study award is preferred.
