Position Details:

Indiana State University and Cunningham Memorial Library invite applications for the title of Special Collections Director and University Archivist. Reporting to the University Librarian this 12-month senior position provides leadership and administrative oversight of personnel assigned to the Special Collections Department, which includes Rare Books & Manuscripts, University Archives, and the Permanent Art Collection. These three units hold, preserve, and make accessible the University's history, local history collections, art, the prominent Cordell Dictionary Collection, and Rare Book collections on a variety of subjects. The Director provides overall direction, supervision, management, and leadership in these areas; cultivates donors, promotes collections, oversees exhibit programming and outreach, and pursues grant opportunities. In addition, the Director serves as the curator of the rare book and manuscripts collections and university archives and is responsible for acquisitions, access, and preservation. This position will operate in a team environment and effectively collaborate and communicate with all constituencies. This position will work to establish strong relationships with the faculty, staff, and students.

Rank: Non tenure track 12-month position

Supervision: Provides direct supervision of staff in both the Special Collections Department and the Permanent Art Collection.

Requirements: Master's degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA-accredited institution or terminal graduate degree appropriate to working in archives or special collections. Three years' managerial experience in a library or archives; Demonstrated skills in planning, managing, and evaluating staff, programs and services; Demonstrated strong customer service focus and interpersonal skills.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Library and University Librarian, this 12-month senior position provides leadership and administrative oversight of personnel assigned to the Special Collections Department, which includes Rare Books & Manuscripts, University Archives, and the Permanent Art Collection. The Director provides overall direction, supervision, management, and leadership in these areas; cultivates donors, promotes collections, oversees exhibit program and outreach, and pursues grant opportunities. In addition, the Director serves as the curator of the rare book and manuscripts collections and university archives and is responsible for acquisitions, access, and preservation. The Director maintains confidentiality in all personnel and budgetary matters. The Director also facilitates a collegial work environment; evaluates needs, processes, and staffing requirements; cultivates and promotes interdepartmental communication and civility; and collaborates with colleagues in library-wide planning, budgeting, and policy development. This position has primary accountability for archival data stored on dries and in remote storage. The position will need to ensure archival data is in compliance with university policies.
