Job Description

MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 4; Grant funded

Campus Location: Lynn

Schedule: 37.5 hours per week Monday-Friday as follows:

  • 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM and occasional weekend and evenings during the academic year and
  • 8:00 AM - 4:00 plus a residential component (Sunday-Friday) during the summer program

SALARY: Anticipated starting salary is $63,159.00 - $65,000.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Programming Coordinator/Educational Advisor works with low-income, first-generation, and/or academically at-risk high school students from the Lynn Public School district. The coordinator works to increase the rate at which participants complete their secondary school education, and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

The Program Coordinator is a dynamic and engaging team player who coordinates, plans, and implements program activities and tracks and promotes students' progress towards post-secondary goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Identify, recruit, and select program participants to meet grant goals and objectives;
  2. Plan, organize, and implement after school and weekend cultural, service, and recreational activities and workshops;
  3. Coordinate and chaperone college presentations and tours;
  4. Track, monitor, support, and promote students' academic progress, program participation, and progress towards post-secondary goals; meet with students quarterly or more frequently as needed;
  5. Co-coordinate and facilitate all aspects of the summer program, including but not limited to recommending staff to be hired, providing assistance with orientation, integrating the summer theme, and activity planning.
  6. Support the after-school tutoring program;
  7. Assist with supervision of student workers and temporary staff;
  8. Engage in outreach efforts to inform students, families and partner agencies of program service;
  9. Assist with student academic and career assessment and senior recommendations;
  10. Document activities and services; maintain confidential records, run reports, and track students' progress and program outcomes using Blumen? database;
  11. Create family and alumni newsletters. Update the program's bulletin boards and other social media accounts;
  12. Establish and maintain relationships with secondary institutions, postsecondary institutions and community agencies as relevant for specific program needs;
  13. Attend and participate in state and regional conferences and other relevant professional development;
  14. Collaborate with NSCC staff around dual enrollment, matters related to financial aid, and campus facilities;
  15. Promote consistent application of program, institutional, and federal policies and procedures;
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of EOC/TS/UB

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Education, Counseling, or a related field plus a minimum of three years related work experience;
  • Secondary level counseling, advising, tutoring, and/or related experience with the target population;
  • Demonstrated skills working successfully with low-income, first-generation college-bound youth, or in fields related to the objectives of the program; experience with TRIO programs preferred;
  • Experience developing, organizing, running, and evaluating events; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop constructive, professional relationships with colleagues and students and to serve as mentor to Upward Bound participants;
  • Experience presenting workshops and/or similar academic and interpersonal activities;
  • Strong computing skills, i.e. working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, database / student records, social and mobile applications;
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred);
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
