Student Engagement and Curriculum Coordinator

The student engagement and curriculum coordinator works in partnership with the Institute's directors and faculty to oversee the Institute's various educational and pedagogical projects, to promote student learning in curricular and extracurricular environments on campus, and to engage in student outreach. The student engagement and curriculum coordinator is responsible for articulating the center's educational vision and strategic planning; administration of Wallenberg Institute courses and student leadership programs; and leading student dialogue sessions. The successful candidate will contribute to the Wallenberg Institute's inclusive atmosphere of collaboration and shared decision-making. The student engagement and curriculum coordinator should possess subject knowledge relevant to the mission of the Institute, as well as expertise and experience pertaining to pedagogy and education.

Manage educational efforts and collaborations (50%)

  • Create courses within the university system, including cross-listing and promoting courses, in collaboration with relevant academic departments.
  • Work with Wallenberg research fellows in relation to their U-M coursework to advance a supportive teaching collaborative at the Wallenberg Institute.
  • Support Wallenberg directors in the organization of the flagship course for the Wallenberg Institute: Religious and Ethnic Tolerance.
  • Manage the GSI application and hiring process, including coordination with GSITO for training for new GSIs.
  • Finalize course approvals and changes through the LSA Curriculum Committee by providing recommendations based on analysis of data and feedback.
  • Create and submit the Course descriptions in the Course Guide.
  • Monitor registration closely; collect and track enrollment data.
  • Coordinate/order course evaluations and make arrangements for student accommodations for Wallenberg courses.
  • Support Wallenberg directors in creating and running the Wallenberg Institute Fellows program bringing in faculty from across the University (including Flint & Dearborn) to talk about best practices around teaching difficult subject matter.

Student Engagement/Outreach (30%)

  • Recruit and arrange dialogue groups (i.e. Dialogue and Donuts) and programs (i.e. Interfaith Photovoice) across campus, maintaining an active presence among a diversity of U-M students promoting civil discourse and dialogic skills.
  • Work with students to create programs promoting the values of the Institute: empathy, courage, tolerance, and leadership.
  • Conduct student outreach through tabling activities and student recruitment events.

Administration (20%)

  • Manage Wallenberg curriculum accounts, including endowments and gifts, maintaining long-term budget forecasting to allow for future planning.
  • Prepare periodic reports on Wallenberg activities.
  • Serve as a member of the Wallenberg Leadership Team as a content expert in researching and developing goals and initiatives to recommend to faculty leadership.
  • Actively create and facilitate a welcoming environment for multidimensional groups.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Social Work, Psychology, Religious Studies, History, or relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years experience in teaching and classroom management.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate a vision into action; proven track record of creating and reaching measurable results.
  • Previous success in recruiting and organizing students for meaningful programming.
  • Strong management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a complex and dynamic organization, balancing flexibility, initiative, risk-taking and entrepreneurial thinking with the structures of a large institution.
  • Experience working with a diverse student body.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a variety of constituents from various fields.
  • Experience utilizing facilitation strategies and pedagogical methods to advance engaged/experiential learning.
  • Extensive knowledge of theories, concepts, and best practice of college student development, intergroup and social justice education.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000, please note a higher salary may be offered for highly qualified candidates.
