Specialist NMH Tutor Mentor

The Disability and Neuroinclusion team at the University of Surrey is expanding its provision of term time Non-Medical Helper (NMH) specialist tutors and mentors. We are seeking to recruit qualified and experienced experts who can deliver specialist tutoring and/or specialist mentoring support to students on a regular one-to-one permanent basis.

In a typical 7.2-hour day you would meet with five students, with the remaining time being used for associated administration, and attending a NMH team meeting fortnightly.

We anticipate a combination of face-to-face and remote sessions being delivered with at least 50% of time being spent on campus. Working for us fully remotely will not be possible.

Our team of term-time NMH staff typically work 2-5 days per week in term time. While salary is paid evenly over the year, post-holders will undertake the role over 32 core weeks of the year, inclusive of term-time and other periods of high demand.

About You:

In order to be short listed for interview, applicants must meet the DfE’s regulatory requirements, qualification and professional body criteria specified at: https://www.practitioners.slc.co.uk/media/1987/final-nmh-qualifications-matrix-july2023.pdf pages 8 - 17.

For further information, please contact Sarah Field, sarah.field@surrey.ac.uk

What we can offer:

In addition to salary, you will receive a yearly incremental pay rise, a generous pension, access to world-class leisure facilities on campus, a range of travel schemes, and supportive family friendly benefits including an excellent on-site nursery.

How to apply:

Please apply online using the link below and include a CV and cover letter.

Interviews will be held on campus Wednesday 1st October 2025.

The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all. We place great value on diversity and are seeking to increase the diversity within our community. We therefore particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities.
