The Institute of Pure and Applied Sciences, University of Tsukuba, invites applications for one Specially Appointed Assistant Professor (women-only position) who will conduct original and highly promising experimental research in the field of quantum condensed matter physics.
This women-only recruitment constitutes a positive action measure under Article 8 of the Act on Securing, Etc. of Equal Opportunity and Treatment between Men and Women in Employment. It aims to address the underrepresentation of female faculty members and to promote more innovative research and education.
[Work content and job description]
The successful candidate will work with Professor Fujioka in managing the Solid-State Quantum Physics Laboratory and promote the exploration of novel physical properties in strongly correlated electron systems, topological materials, and related systems through materials synthesis and/or physical-property measurements. No specialization in synthesis or measurement techniques is required. In addition to conducting research, the successful candidate will contribute to education in the College of Engineering Sciences, School of Science and Engineering, and in the Subprogram in Materials Science, Master’s/Doctoral Program in Engineering Sciences, Degree Programs in Pure and Applied Sciences, Graduate School of Science and Technology. The successful candidate will also be responsible for teaching foundational and specialized courses, including courses in the Applied Condensed Matter Physics major and supervision of undergraduate graduation research.

Contract period description: The term of appointment is three years from the date of appointment, with the possibility of transitioning to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. After transitioning to the tenure-track position, the candidate will undergo a performance evaluation in accordance with the regulations of the University of Tsukuba. If the candidate is evaluated as meeting the prescribed criteria, the position will be converted to a non-fixed-term Assistant Professor position.
