Spiritual Formation Program Covenant Group Mentor: Lecturer, Part-Time, Temporary A/Y 2025-2026
The covenant group mentor serves a vital role in accomplishing the learning outcomes of Truett's Spiritual Formation program by shepherding students, teaching practical wisdom, asking good questions, and modeling Christ-like character. At the conclusion of the spiritual formation program, covenant group mentors help students to:
- Articulate a basic understanding of the processes and goals of spiritual formation and discipleship in relationship to God's story and one's own story.
- Demonstrate a commitment to a life of intentional spiritual development and accountability to spiritual companions and mentors.
- Provide mutual encouragement and support for a diverse group of individuals by listening and responding with empathy and spiritual discernment in small groups.
- Exhibit a commitment to self-awareness and self-assessment as a disciple of Christ who is being formed for service to God in the world.
- Integrate disciplines of prayer and other forms of practice into daily life and describe the implications for personal spiritual formation.
- Develop a personal covenant in collaboration with others close to them in order to discern a path of vocation and devotion in their relationship with God.
To accomplish these outcomes, the covenant group mentor will:
- Work in collaboration with course instructors to teach and disciple students.
- Be present for large group gathering with instructors and small group gatherings with their covenant group.
- Focus students on the given lesson aims for each class session.
- Facilitate a conversation among students, fostering constructive dialogue.
- Communicate with the Spiritual Formation office when the mentor anticipates being absent, and to appoint a student to guide discussion and take attendance on the date of absence.
- Record attendance using designated online tools.
- Read student reflections to prepare for discussions.
- Remain compliant with Baylor University's policies and procedures (completion of Title IX training, etc.).
- Lead groups in a spirit that is consistent with Truett Seminary's 'Vision for Common Life Together' and 'Statement of Common Faith'.
- Pray for students, instructors, and Baylor's Truett Seminary, that our work may be done unto God and for God's glory.
Qualifications: Masters level degree, specialized knowledge in the area of spiritual formation, and/or significant ministry experience.
