Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse for the division of Plastic Surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Rutgers Health–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Staff Nurse, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, provides focused, technical nursing care to clinical and office operations. In accordance with professional nursing standards, the Staff Nurse skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides and documents nursing care within the scope of practice for plastic surgery patients via face-to-face and telephone encounters; provides input to the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient's status to the physician and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate and in a timely manner. Leads other health team members to ensure proper implementation of patient care and procedures.
- Reviews patient charts prior to office visits and pre-/post-procedures for essential paperwork and test results. Reviews results with physicians and communicates to patients.
- Assists physicians and physician associates when needed during scheduled office hours, including preparation and assistance with minor procedures and tissue expander fills. Chaperones physicians when necessary and ensures proper patient flow. Anticipates physician needs and obtains proper supplies/instruments. Ensures all procedures are performed based on established standards; demonstrates competency in performing all procedures within scope of practice.
- Educates patients/significant others about health/illness state and plan of care. Instructs patients on proper wound care and addresses any questions they may have.
- Maintains clinical supplies and equipment, specifically specialty supplies. Aids in obtaining specialty supplies and maintaining minor procedure instrument sets.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse (RN required).
- Must have at least 2 years of related experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
