HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:

1. You’ll be joining the Cook Counseling Center team, a department centered on promoting student learning, development, retention, and holistic well-being by providing resources for improving mental health and identifying psychological barriers to academic success.
2. You’ll be reporting to the Associate Director of Psychiatry/Chief Medical Officer, in either a 10-month or 11-month (academic year) or a 12-month, 100% administrative professional appointment, depending on candidate preference and departmental need.
3. You'll work with a multidisciplinary staff of counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and practicum students to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care.
4. You’ll be responsible for providing integrated psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing treatment of undergraduate and graduate students. Treatment includes developing evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment plans to address student needs within a flexible, multidisciplinary, and multimodal system of care. This position requires effective working relationships across the VT community to include Schiffert Health Center, campus wellness partners, faculty, and staff, to ensure a collaborative support network on campus.
5. You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $230,000 - $275,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more! Advertised salary range reflects differentiation in appointment types, with the lower end of the scale being most appropriate for 10-month appointments and vice versa.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Doctor of Medicine (or Doctor of Osteopathy) degree and Board Certification in Psychiatry with a medical license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

• Active federal DEA registration with prescriptive authority in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions.
• Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills
• Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills within evidence-based practice.
• Experience managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks.
• A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
• The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance, respect, and trust.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and interest in working with college-student/young adult population
• Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting

$230,000 - $275,000. This position may be hired as a 10-month (academic-year), 11-month, or 12-month appointment, depending on candidate preference and departmental need.
