Position Summary: The Institute for Trauma Recovery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is looking for a data analyst/statistician at or above the master’s degree level, to work in a collaborative team of investigators and perform statistical analyses to gain new discoveries to help trauma survivors. The primary focus of the position will be to assist with analyses of diverse longitudinal data collected as part of the ~$35 million dollar AURORA study. This study, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and private and foundation partners, enrolled individuals presenting to a large network of emergency department in the immediate aftermath of trauma. Study participants were followed longitudinally for one year, beginning in the hours after trauma, using sophisticated adaptive sampling methods and state-of-the-art battery of self-report, neurocognitive, physiologic, digital phenotype, psychosocial, neuroimaging, and genomic markers. In addition to analyses of these data, the statistician will also analyze data from longitudinal data collected as part of many other past and current R01 studies going on in the institute, as well as the analysis of clinical trial data.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment required. Demonstrated ability as a scientific writer, demonstrated ability to perform advanced statistical analyses and learn and perform statistical analyses new to them, expert knowledge of R and other software packages. Must be able to analyze diverse longitudinal data collected as part of research studies and have prior experience publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts and preparing other academic, grant, or stakeholder-facing materials.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Prior experience with advanced statistical methods (e.g., multilevel modeling, latent/class cluster analysis, regression-based methods) is preferred, as is familiarity with machine learning techniques. Candidates should also demonstrate proficiency with both basic and advanced statistical analyses in clinical or epidemiological research. Master’s degree with extensive experience will be considered. PhD in a social, applied, or related science discipline strongly preferred.
