STEM Tutoring Coordinator
Job Description Summary
The STEM Tutoring Coordinator assists in the management, onboarding, and supervision of an extensive peer educator staff. The Coordinator possesses expertise in STEM education to assist in training and developing tutors hired to support STEM courses. The incumbent designs and manages the implementation of STEM content focused programming and workshops. The STEM Coordinator liaises with STEM faculty and departments to strengthen the connection between tutoring and the classroom experience. Also, this connection with the faculty and academic departments contributes to the recruitment of suitable candidates to undertake the peer education role. Finally, the STEM Tutoring Coordinator contributes to the overall management and missions of both Tutoring and the Weingarten Center.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, facilitate, and evaluate STEM specific peer educator training resources and assist in the facilitation of the general peer educator training.
- Assist in the selection, hiring, recruitment and management of STEM workshop leaders, drop-in tutors, and drop-in monitors. Design and implement screening processes for STEM peer educators.
- Support the payroll approval process for workshop leaders, drop-in tutors, and drop-in monitors.
- Coordinate the operation of the weekly STEM content workshops in partnership with faculty and student facilitators.
- Develop and coordinate annual programs and resources that help undergraduates prepare for first-year STEM courses, including Calculus Startup.
- Conduct routine evaluations of peer educators for development and quality control purposes.
- Communicate with STEM faculty partners to build collaborative relationships and maintain a working familiarity with STEM programs on campus.
- Maintain oversight of the Drop-in Tutoring schedule.
- Participate in Tutoring Services and Weingarten Center efforts, such as outreach, assessment, meetings, and other departmental activities.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred.
- Experience and background with STEM curriculum (preferably Math or Chemistry).
- At least 1 year of previous experience with peer education.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple ongoing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to implementing inclusive practices.
- Growth-focused mindset with an emphasis on mentoring students.
