  • HEO 6 Base Salary $103,185 - $111,237 p.a. + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) is driven by academic rigour, intellectual curiosity and social inclusion, with a commitment to solving pressing global challenges. The Student Affairs and Engagement portfolio supports the academic, professional and social success of over 14,000 undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students in FASS through the delivery of a range of innovative engagement programs.

FASS is seeking to appoint a communications and events specialist to join our high performing and student-focused team in the role of Student Affairs and Engagement Coordinator.

Working in a fun, dynamic and fast-paced environment, you will be leading large scale student engagement initiatives, including welcome and orientation, student leadership programs, student partner programs and peer mentoring.

We are a high-performing, supportive team that values your professional development and achieving positive outcomes for students and staff. The team has been awarded three Vice Chancellor's Awards for Excellence for the quality of programs they deliver.

The award winning Student Affairs and Engagement team is dedicated to making a positive impact on the academic, social and professional success of students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. This is achieved through the delivery of effective, evidence-based programs and initiatives throughout the student life cycle in the areas of orientation, transition, academic advice and progression, leadership development and volunteering, student engagement, health, and wellbeing, work integrated learning and careers.

About you

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills, for preparing routine and more complex reports and correspondence
  • highly developed interpersonal skills including building relationships and working in a client services and team environment
  • sound judgment and initiative to prioritise and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment
  • demonstrated experience organising events (at scale) from concept to delivery
  • relevant experience at a higher education institution, or comparable commercial or government sector experience
  • knowledge of issues relating to University Policy and experience in delivering advice and support to students
  • ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
