The School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences spans a continuum from discovery, development, and delivery of new drugs, devices, and diagnostics all the way to optimizing medication therapy in patients and patient populations. The school offers a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, MS in Pharmacology, PhD in Pharmacological Sciences, and Doctor of Pharmacy PharmD. https://pharmsci.uci.edu
Your Role on the Team
The Student Affairs Manager applies advanced academic advising concepts and experience, addresses the most difficult problems in the academic advising of undergraduate and graduate students, and develops solutions to these problems. Demonstrates advanced, specialized expertise in student affairs and is responsible for the School's Office of Student Affairs, including strategic planning and budgetary oversight of the unit. Identifies systemic problems and issues, and proposes solutions to school leadership on changes to school policy and procedures. Provides advice and counsel on pharmacy academic advising issues to other, experienced academic advisors.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
- Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
- Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
- Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and diplomacy skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe PDF
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- 2-5 years' experience advising both undergraduate and graduate students
- Some supervisory experience - staff supervision is ideal but will consider student employees
Preferred:
- Knowledge of health sciences professional degree program requirements
- Thorough knowledge of college / school policies, procedures, requirements, and student handbooks.
- Thorough knowledge of department / college / school precedents and application of policy.
Special Conditions:
- Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
- Occasional travel (locally, regionally, and nationally) is required.
