Job Summary

This professional academic advising position is responsible for assisting student-athletes by providing comprehensive academic advising and support service programs. Oversee academic support for various teams as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Services. Responsibilities would include being up to date on Georgia Southern, Sun Belt, and NCAA rules and regulations in regards to the academics of student-athletes. Will be responsible for providing various reports that tracks the eligibility of each student-athletes, progress towards degree, and progress to towards graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop individualized academic support plans for high-achieving and at-risk student-athletes and communicate plans with SAS leadership and coaching staff
  • For advisors with a Learning Specialist caseload, provide targeted support to 15-20 students with documented academic challenges in place of sport-specific assignments
  • Coordinate regularly with athletics administration, coaches, faculty, and campus partners regarding student-athlete academic progress
  • Monitor academic eligibility in accordance with NCAA, Sun Belt Conference, and university policies
  • Support recruiting efforts by providing prospective student-athletes and families with academic information
  • Track weekly grades for assigned students, meet bi-weekly with coaches, and supervise assigned evening study halls
  • Meet consistently with new freshmen, transfers, and students below a 3.0 GPA to review academic performance and progress
  • Collaborate with advising units on academic schedules, major changes, transfer credit evaluations, and degree-progress audits
  • Maintain accurate records for progress-toward-degree requirements, NCAA eligibility, and SAS documentation expectations
  • Meet annual KPI benchmarks and manage assigned functional areas such as student worker oversight, tutoring/mentoring programs, committee liaison roles, awards/recognition, special projects, or the Honorary Coach Program

Proposed Salary

$46,513 - $50,000

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and work alongside other campus resources
