Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Student Support Specialist supports the implementation of the Apprenticeship Expansion grant at the College of DuPage, funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). This grant focuses on expanding Registered Apprenticeship across Illinois. The Student Support Specialist will provide direct apprentice support, assist with program implementation, and perform administrative tasks. This is a part-time, grant-funded position through December 31, 2027.

  • Assist Project Hire-Ed in implementing the DCEO Apprenticeship Expansion grant.
  • Support the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) apprenticeship program designed to advance credentials of the incumbent workforce.
  • Meet with prospective apprentices to explain program requirements and help them assess alignment with their career goals.
  • Assist new apprentices with registering for COD and the apprenticeship program.
  • Run student reports and collect data related to books, refunds, tuition costs and other documentation needs.
  • Monitor student requirements, placement, and employer and grant compliance for apprenticeship site arrangements.
  • Track student admission, program participation, progression and graduation requirements.
  • Provide student support by connecting them with resources at the college and within the community to ensure student success.
  • Maintain strong relationships with employer partners.
  • Enter apprentice information into Illinois apprenticeship database.
  • Collaborate with area high schools to implement the ECEC pre-apprenticeship program for students exploring careers in early childhood education and care.
  • Monitor pre-apprentice/apprentice program completion components; track curriculum changes and monitor degree/certificate requirements.
  • Manage on-campus visits for ECEC pre-apprenticeship participants.
  • Assist in implementing, tracking, and reporting all DCEO Apprenticeship Expansion grant activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program goals.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent combinations of education and experience required.

Experience

  • Two to three (2-3) years of direct student support experience required.
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent relationship building, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence at multiple levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse constituencies required.
  • Experience in college student processes or case management preferred.
  • Experience in a high volume, fast paced environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).

Working Conditions:

Part-time 18-25 hours per week. A combination of day, evening, and occasional weekend hours maybe be required. This position is subject to a background check and education verification at the expense of the College.

Hiring Range:

Starting pay begins at $21.70/hr. based on experience.

Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience. College of DuPage also offers regular part-time positions a variety of fringe benefits including retirement benefits, access to holiday pay, personal time and other discounts on classes.
