Job Summary
In this fully in-person role, the Study Abroad (SA) Advisor advises students on Study Abroad and Exchange programs, helps students shape their academics abroad, assists students in working with their Academic Advisors in selecting coursework abroad appropriate to academic degrees and academic progress, and guides students through the SA application process, plus preparations to pursue their studies abroad. Responds to SA questions from students, families, faculty, and others, and anticipates and resolves difficulties. Assists with promotion of Education Abroad, and Study Abroad programs/programming. Updates SA webpages, plus the Terra Dotta online program and scholarship application portal, and monitors the status of applications and enrollments. Shares coordination of faculty-led and collaborative programs and related activities. Helps to develop and conduct pre-departure orientations for students, plus training workshops for faculty. Ensures compliance with university academic, financial and safety standards, and maintains necessary related student and program records. Possibility to advise the popular International Club student organization. May oversee work of student interns.
Responsibilities

- Serve as the primary advisor and source of information for students seeking/preparing to study abroad.
- Help students select programs and opportunities abroad consistent with students' academic needs (and personal desires), and the objectives of their majors and degree programs.
- Guide students through application and enrollment processes, and help with travel and immigration questions, plus basic matters related to scholarships and financial aid.
- Applications, Record-Keeping & Reporting - 25
- Maintain the unit's online application portal, and monitor enrollments and the status of applications - including scholarships - communicating with applicants and others as required.
- Create weekly enrollment and application reports.
- Assist Assistant Director in collecting and assembling materials for Education Abroad committee meetings.
- Promotion of Study Abroad Programs & Opportunities - 15
- Give presentations, orientations, and perform outreach.
- In collaboration with SA Assistant Director, develop and deliver campus promotional/informational presentations, pre-departure student orientations, and developmental and informational workshops for faculty members.
- Update the SA website to keep it current and accurate.
- Other - 5
- Co-coordinate annual Study Abroad fair, plus other events.
- Other responsibilities in support of the IEC's overall mission and goals, and in service to international education at Georgia College & State University.
- Service in occasional support for the social and promotional activities of the International Student unit of the IEC.
- Assist in unit support of the International Club.
- Other duties as assigned by IEC Director (Assistant Vice-President for International Education), or Assistant Director of Study Abroad.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree, preferably in a discipline related to International Study/Studies.
Other Required Qualifications
- Student and people/public-centered disposition, plus positive attitude, demonstrated initiative, and dedication to student and unit success.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communications skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, and to proactively manage multiple projects.
- Basic understanding of academic organizations and curricular structures.
- Basic understanding of budgets and financial operations.
- Use of spreadsheets, MS Office applications, and ability to use/learn digital technologies.
Required Experience
One year or more of work experience related to above-described duties, plus experience studying abroad.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Driven and energetic, with an inquisitive, innovative, and forward-looking mindset.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant field, plus foreign language study.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of one year of direct professional experience, preferably in a Study Abroad or International Education office.
- Successful participation in a semester or academic year Study Abroad program.
- Experience in student and academic advising, plus support for students.

- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality results, manage time, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced public-facing office.

- Basic understanding of academic organizational and curricular structures, plus Study Abroad mechanics/environment.
- Basic understanding of office, budgetary and financial operations.

This is not a supervisory position.
This position has financial responsibilities.
This position will not be required to drive.
This role is not considered a position of trust.
This position requires a purchasing card (P-Card).
This position will not travel.
This position does not require security clearance.
