Study Abroad Advisor
Position Summary/Description:
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Study Abroad Advisor is a member of the Study Abroad Office programs & advising team. The advisor is the primary point of contact for UNC Chapel Hill students who consider participating in programs in the assigned portfolio. The Study Abroad Advisor guides and assists students at every step of the process: identifying a program, completing an application, applying for scholarships, preparing for their education abroad experience, staying safe and healthy while abroad, pursuing academic credit for their overseas study, and reflecting on the experience when they return to Chapel Hill. The Study Abroad Advisor is student-centered and contributes to increasing access to life-changing global opportunities. The position reports to the Senior Director or Programs and Advising in the Study Abroad Office.
Education and Experience:
Candidates who possess the following qualifications are preferred:
- Proactive, creative, innovative mindset
- Demonstrated success working with various student populations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in both autonomous and interdependent team settings
- Proven ability to prioritize work and adapt easily to changing priorities
- Experience implementing data informed practices and contributing to assessment and strategic priorities
- Superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, student-centered environment
- Proficiency in a modern world language
- Willingness to travel internationally
- Experience working with Terra Dotta software
Essential Skills:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to multitask in a high-traffic office; ability to work independently as well as with a team; proficiency in Microsoft Office are all required.
