Summary
The creative enrichment course in ceramics will focus on bringing the experience of everyday life into sculptural form. Students will have technical demonstrations, brief art theory lectures, and technical guidance with significant time to develop their skills in rendering and artistic thinking to make sculptural narratives that reflect their lived experiences. The course will conclude with a group critique where each student will share their work and engage in a discussion of their artistic choices and what they mean in the work.
This summer enrichment course in drawing and painting encourages middle school students to translate their everyday experiences into vibrant visual art. Students will participate in fun and informative technical demonstrations, brief art theory sessions, and receive personalized guidance. They'll have plenty of time to experiment with their artistic style and create pieces that reflect their own stories. The course will wrap up with an enjoyable group critique, where students will present their artwork and discuss the imaginative decisions behind their creations.
The summer art course for rising 6th grade students will provide students with a comprehensive overview of middle school art. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in visual arts and experience working with middle school students. This position will involve creating and implementing an engaging art curriculum that inspires creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression. Students can expect to practice drawing, painting, ceramics, and digital art.
Under the direction of the Summer Program Director at Geffen Academy at UCLA, the Educator will create this course of study, prepare materials, and deliver an excellent summer enrichment course. The Educator will teach one ceramics course to students in the 5th Grade Foundations program. The course will be an hour long and meet daily over a three week period. All courses will be taught in-person on Geffen Academy's campus.
Job Duties
- Consistent with the department's goals, participate in the design and development of curricula that develops a creative and innovative mindset and joy in the Geffen Academy's students.
- Build a creative program for secondary school students in areas such as, but not limited to: creative thinking, meta cognition, 3D art, and ceramics.
- Support students in a dynamic process of project planning and execution of created curriculum, including hands-on opportunities for students to express themselves through multiple mediums and modalities.
