Supplemental Instruction Leader (SIL) (Student)
Job Details
SILs are responsible for:
1) Conducting SI sessions for their assigned class (two session per week; sessions are one hour).
2) Attending lecture section of course ( three hours per week).
3) Meeting with the course professor ( 30 mins per week).
4) Hold office hours (1-3 hours per week).
5) Meeting weekly with SIL Coordinator (1 hour per week).
6) Provide reports detailing lesson planning, student attendance, and other data.
SILs act as mentors to NMHU students and as role models to fellow employees at the ARMAS Center. While most of an SIL’s daily work will be centered around the SIL program, SILs are expected to support ARMAS center staff and student employees in ARMAS Center operations and activities.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled NMHU student, with 1 year or more of college completed.
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Must have received a B or better (final grade) in the course applying for, preferably at NMHU .
- Demonstrate good interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to commit 10 hours per week to the job and attend weekly meetings and training sessions.
- Must serve as ARMAS /Science Fair Staff at the NE Regional Science Fair February 28 – March 2, 2025.
- MUST ATTEND MANDATORY ARMAS EMPLOYEE Meetings and all SIL training sessions.
- Customer Service Skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Self – motivated
- Willingness to help others.
- Experience tutoring and/or serving as a mentor.
