ROLE of the POSITION

The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, Department of Surgery is recruiting for a Surgical Oncologist, at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The candidate's educational credentials, terminal degree, experience in an academic medical institution or equivalency will be considered in determining that candidate's recommended rank. The SOM Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (SOM) promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the SOM. Tenure consideration may be given upon hire on a case by case basis depending on verified previous credentials, the FAPT recommendation, and SOM Dean's recommendation.

The Surgical Oncologist will join a team of fellowship trained surgical oncologists and breast surgical oncologist in the Division. They are responsible for diagnosis, staging, surgical treatment of malignancy, and surgical palliation. Duties include developing an active clinical surgical oncology practice, clinical research, and quality improvement activities.

The candidate will be expected to actively participate in the education of medical students, surgical residents and fellows, and the pursuit of scholarly activities with learners is expected. They will need to demonstrate practical interpersonal and communication skills and be committed to ongoing performance improvement. Dedication to enhancing a diverse workforce and academic environment is vital. They should be able to collaborate effectively with other clinicians. Evidence of clinical competence and competence in clinical and didactic teaching and clinical trial research is expected.

Participation in national meetings related to Surgical Oncology, will be encouraged and supported.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate requires a M.D. or D.O. degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum experience of 3 years as an academic attending surgeon is required. The successful candidate must also be Board Certified in General Surgical Oncology or have completed an SSO Accredited Surgical Oncology fellowship and Board Certified in General Surgery prior to the start date. The candidate must be eligible for an unrestricted Nevada medical license, malpractice coverage, and must be able to meet credentialing requirements, and must be able to obtain admitting privileges at applicable hospitals and/or clinics. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions.
