The Opportunity

You will supervise a team of skilled professionals and technicians, ensuring the delivery and coordination of high-quality services, resources, and activities to support learning, teaching, and where applicable, research and procurement initiatives. Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing technical programs that foster scholarly practices and outcomes for academics across schools and campuses. This role requires the ability to work independently and may involve collaboration across multiple technical disciplines and campuses.

You will

  • collaborate with internal work areas and external stakeholders (including industry subject matter experts) to enhance and improve the technical delivery with the aim of achieving compliance and best practice;
  • provide strategic support and advice to schools with regards to the integration of the relevant range of university and external policies that are related to the practical learning of complex course content;
  • manage the day-to day supervision of a professional technical team to ensure that the practical learning and teaching activities goals are met in a safe, timely and effective manner based on the set timetabling of the course; and
  • provide policy recommendations with respect to health, safety and wellbeing of the practical activities delivered with the aim of enhancing student safety and awareness of risk factors, ensuring that participant safety is the main priority.

About you

You bring proven leadership and technical expertise, with a strong ability to build and lead an effective team while fostering a positive work environment focused on continuous improvement and professional development. Your excellent communication and negotiation skills enable you to establish rapport and cooperation from internal and external stakeholders.

Your commitment to client service is evident in your experience coordinating a goal-oriented team culture that is cohesive and highly integrated. Additionally, you have extensive experience mentoring technical service staff, with the ability to establish priorities, drive cultural change, and manage competing deadlines effectively.

You will possess:

  • completion of a relevant degree (Postgraduate qualifications desirable) with at least four years’ subsequent experience in the provision of a broad range of activities in support of undergraduate teaching in the areas of Sports Exercise, Allied Health (Educ & Creative Industries advantageous);
  • leadership experience in managing a support function pertaining to the technical areas of the assigned discipline/s along with relevant knowledge of and experience in operationalising current legislation;
  • diagnostic and problem-solving skills to anticipate and respond to the needs of stakeholders in a prioritised manner and, within an allocated budget;
  • ability to provide technical training to the direct reports of the position to build a skilled and robust team of technical experts; and
  • extensive knowledge of workplace health, safety and wellbeing legislation and best practice as it applies to the technical environment of the assigned discipline/s with extensive experience in subsequent implementation and regular auditing.
