Director, Student Financial Services
Description of the Position
The Director, Student Financial Services oversees and leads the Student Financial Services (SFS) functional departments and teams (Financial Aid, and Student Accounts) at Northwest Nazarene University (NNU), ensuring a seamless and efficient undergraduate and graduate experience for students.
The Director of Student Financial Services reports to the Vice President for Finance and Operations with additional reporting lines to the Vice President for Academics and the Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing within a matrix organizational structure. This position is an exempt, full-time, 12-month position.
Essential Functions
- Manage multi-year strategic development plans for SFS, Financial Aid, and Nighthawks Central
- Assist in the analysis, development, and implementation of processes, procedures, and policies for incoming and continuing students, formulating the best approach to serve students through the persistence process to graduation.
- Collaborate with the campus community to establish and maintain robust, efficient, and seamless programs.
- Evaluate, develop, and maintain operating systems, policies, procedures, and priorities for the SFS office.
- Oversee awarding and disbursement of federal, state, and institutional financial aid, and the billing and collection of student accounts.
- Implement business best practices to directly train and develop SFS and university staff.
- Oversee preparation for audits of financial records for internal requests and external agencies.
- Represent the SFS office to various constituents, both internally and externally.
- Coordinate with campus leadership and the Marketing team for consistent communication to students, families, and stakeholders.
- In consultation with campus leadership, develop student services procedures aligned with the compliance of financial aid, student accounts, admissions, academic policies, and federal regulations.
- Oversee the department budget and expenditure.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in a Student Financial Services environment.
- Working knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs and regulations.
- Develop and maintain high standards with respect to the delivery of services to students and parents.
- Demonstrated success in evaluating and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and implementing new strategies and procedures.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
- Ability to supervise, develop, and evaluate staff, and foster a cooperative work environment.
- Knowledge of integrated management information systems and Microsoft Office Suite software.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master degree with preferred major in Business related field
- Higher education experience
- Experience with Anthology software
Compensation
Salary is determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant.
