Job Summary

This announcement is for a licensed psychologist with training and experience working with young adult populations. The Staff Psychologist and Training Coordinator provides direct counseling and psychotherapeutic services to undergraduate students. The Staff Psychologist and Training Coordinator will additionally serve to oversee and supervise the current limited post-doctoral training program in conjunction with the Department of Disability Services. In addition to the post-doctoral program, the Staff Psychologist and Training Coordinator will work in conjunction with the Director of Counseling to create and implement a Master’s level practicum program within the Emmons Wellness Center. The Staff Psychologist and Training Coordinator will serve as the second in charge of the Counseling Center Services. The position is 12 months in length. The Staff Psychologist and Training Coordinator reports to the Director of Counseling Services.

 

Job Duties

Clinical Responsibilities 

  • Provide direct counseling and psychotherapeutic services to a dynamic and diverse group of undergraduate students. Services include intake, crisis intervention, individual, couples and group psychotherapy. 
  • Serve as the clinician in charge in the absence of Director of Counseling. 
  • Consult with the counseling team, psychiatry, and in-house medical providers on a weekly basis to ensure coordination of care within a wellness model related to student mental health needs.
  • Provide risk assessment and crisis intervention for students in-crisis during walk in hours and facilitate psychiatric hospitalization of students if and when needed.
  • Provide on-call support on a 24/7 rotation as needed to be determined.
  • Refer students to medical services at Emmons Wellness Center, to other resources on campus, and to appropriate mental health providers in the community. - (Essential)
  • Maintain up-to-date client charts consistent with current professional standards. 
  • Consult with parents, faculty, staff, and other students as needed.
  • Adhere to and uphold state and federal laws and ethical standards as defined by the appropriate licensing boards and maintain clinical competence through professional development in key areas. 
  • Work with Director of Counseling, Assistant Dean of Emmons, and Health Promotion Specialist to develop and implement a comprehensive outreach strategy for Emmons Counseling Services regarding mental and emotional wellness. 
  • Provide specific outreach to historically underserved and marginalized students, including queer, first generation and BIPOC students, students with disabilities, and students with intersectional identities.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Counseling Services, support and coordinate prevention programming within Counseling Services, including assigning programming, training staff in how to deliver programming, and creating administrative reports regarding prevention programming to the Director.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Counseling Services, serve as a liaison between Counseling Services and all relevant campus partners to ensure appropriate and efficient delivery of prevention programming related to mental health.

Clinical Training Coordination

  • Provide supervision and training to Post-Doctoral Fellows who provide testing services for the Dept. of Disability Services. 
  • Consult and meet regularly with the Director of Disability Services to support the needs of the department alongside the Post-Doctoral Fellows.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Counseling to initiate and pilot a Master’s level practicum training program with the goal of establishing Emmons Wellness Center as a practicum site moving forward. 
  • Provide and oversee a BBS accredited practicum training and supervision to practicum students.
  • Provide Supervision support and training for Emmons Counselors who provide delegate supervision. 
  • May supervise student volunteers or advise clubs in the provision of education and outreach. 
  • Maintain administrative documentation related to supervision and clinical training coordination. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D. in Counseling and/or Clinical Psychology or similar; licensed (proof of licensure required upon hire) as a psychologist in California.
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct clinical work in a mental health capacity within a public/private non-profit agency.
  • Strong demonstrated skills in diagnosis, evaluation, crisis intervention, and brief therapy; ability to conduct outreach activities and develop groups and programs; strong verbal and written communication skills and organizational abilities; and a strong understanding of mental health and developmental needs of traditional-aged undergraduate college students.
  • Experience providing direct individual and group supervision as either a Primary, Delegate, and/or Peer Supervisor required.
  • Must have experience working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and identities, including racial, cultural, gender and sexual identities, nationalities, religious backgrounds, and abilities. Preferred candidates will have an understanding of concepts related to social justice and how they can be integrated into the therapeutic process.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, internet and email.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing services in a college/university counseling center (highly preferred).
  • Experience providing a clinical training program desired, not required.

 

EXPECTED HIRING RANGE:  $90,000 - $97,000/yr

If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and/or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
