Job Summary/Basic Function:The School of Education and Professional Studies at the SUNY College at Potsdam invites applications for a full-time (12-month) tenure-track Assistant Professor of Elementary Education in the Department of Teacher Education. With a focus on enhancing diversity and equity for all students, this position offers a unique opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary and classroom-based teacher education research and pre-service teacher program development, in addition to programmatic administrative responsibilities during the summer. It also provides opportunities to develop collaborative projects with P-12 education partners. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting curricula and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses for SUNY Potsdam’s Elementary Education programs during the fall and spring semesters; the incumbent may also be responsible for supervising teacher candidates in practicum and/or student teaching placements. Summer responsibilities will include advising MST students, and may also include teaching two courses and performing administrative tasks as assigned by the chair and/or dean.
Additional duties of the position will include professional service and scholarly work appropriate to rank; participation in department and program meetings; participation in faculty governance; contributing to the assessment and accreditation activities of the School and College; and participation in partnership advisory committees. Online, evening, weekend, and/or off-site teaching may be required. Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is August, 2024.
Job Requirements & Essential Functions of the Job:A successful candidate will:
1) Maintain a teaching/supervision load of no more than 12 credit hours per semester (fall and spring) within the candidate’s disciplinary area;
2) Conduct administrative duties during the summer, including advising MST students, and maintain a summer teaching load of no more than 6 credit hours;
3) Engage in and plan for academic advising of undergraduate and graduate students in the program in consultation with the program coordinator and chair, and with SUNY Potsdam School of Education support personnel;
4) Collaborate with assessment personnel and program/department faculty to assist in collecting assessment data and contributing to program reports related to assessment and accreditation timelines (i.e., Specialty Program Assessment (SPA) reports, CAEP, Campus Assessment Cycle);
5) Assist with the tracking of teacher candidates’ knowledge, skills, and dispositions;
6) Attend relevant department and program meetings in keeping with roles and responsibilities;
7) Fully participate in faculty governance;
8) Engage in professional service and scholarship appropriate to rank; and
9) Actively participate in student retention and recruitment activities.
Required Qualifications:A successful candidate will have:
1) Earned a doctorate degree in Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution (ABD applicants will be considered);
2) At least 3 years of successful classroom teaching in a P-6 setting;
3) Competence in using a variety of educational technologies, including learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace, Teams, Blackboard); and
4) Demonstrated the ability to conduct research appropriate to the rank of Assistant Professor.

Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates who have:
1) Experience working with pre-service education students;
2) Supervised field practicum and student teaching experiences;
3) Taught courses at the college level;
4) Designed and/or taught classes in an online or hybrid environment;
5) Experience teaching in the STEM disciplines, specifically science;
6) Experience collaborating with various departments or community partners to foster success of underrepresented groups;
7) A record of peer-reviewed publications and/or conference presentations; and/or
8) Supported campus accreditation efforts (specifically, CAEP and/or Middle States).
We are, especially, seeking candidates who have worked with, done research with, or taught under-represented groups and have worked collaboratively across various departments in fostering success of underrepresented groups.
