Job Description:

The State University of New York at Old Westbury seeks to hire an Assistant Librarian to work part-time in Reference Services during the Fall and Spring semesters. The selected candidate will perform general reference to assist students and faculty at the reference desk; perform chat reference, instruction and other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Monday and Tuesday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, rotating Fridays 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, and evening and weekend coverage when needed.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Expertise with a wide range of library databases.
  • Experience teaching instructional sessions.
  • An ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Reference experience in an academic library.
  • Familiarity with SUNY library systems.
  • Comfort with a wide range of technologies, including LibGuides, D2L and MS Office.
