The Candidate will be expected to play an important role in the undergraduate Data Science Program, pursue a research agenda in related areas, and provide service to the department, university and the profession.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Houston - Downtown is inviting applications for a position at the level of Assistant Professor of Data Science to begin teaching in academic year of 2025-2026. A Ph.D. Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or related fields is required by May 2025. The successful applicant will be expected to be an excellent instructor and mentor; being able to teach graduate courses in Data Analytics or Statistics, or Mathematics as well as undergraduate courses in Data Science, and Mathematics or Statistics.
- Ability to teach data analytics or statistics or mathematics courses at the graduate level.
- Ability to teach data science and mathematics or statistics courses at the undergraduate level.
- Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate student projects or other high-impact activities.
- Acknowledge of statistical software packages such as Python, R, and SQL.
- Ability and willingness to provide leadership in curriculum development and professional service.
- Research potential and plans for continuing research activity.
