Head Athletic Trainer

DESCRIPTIONDevelop, coordinate, and administer a comprehensive sports medical program for the College’s Division III intercollegiate sports. The head athletic trainer will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop an overall sports medicine program including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs, and counseling for student-athletes.
  • Provide athletic training services for the athletic department including attendance at scheduled team practices, and home and away competitions as necessary.
  • Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
  • Ensure all athletic injuries are reported to the insurance carrier within 48 hours to satisfy policy requirements of any potential claims.
  • Responsible for the formation of athletic training staff, including hiring, training and supervising assistant/associate athletic trainers.
  • Work in conjunction with the coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.
  • Schedule and coordinate athletic training staff for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in the development of the sports medical program budget.
  • Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program.
  • Responsible for accurate recordkeeping and documentation.
  • Understanding of NCAA medical requirements and regulations.
  • Direct supervisor to Assistant Athletic Trainers.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Hilbert College Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and practices.
  • Travel could be required for specific sports (i.e. Football, Hockey, and Lacrosse)
  • Provide coverage for summer camps and clinics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of CPR and first aid techniques.
  • Ability to read, understand and enforce safety procedures.
  • Moderate physical activity. Required handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • State Athletic Training Licensure.
  • Recent CPR/AED and First Aid credentials.
  • Football experience preferred but not required.

Compensation: $53,000 - $55,000
