"Assistant Professor of Sociology"

Summary Description: Candidates for the position will teach courses in the Human Services major within the Sociology Program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach (12 hours per semester) on campus, advise and mentor students, serve on committees, and demonstrate an active interest in personal and professional development. Candidates will be expected to teach either introduction to sociology or social problems in the Liberal Arts Core.

Essential Functions: 

• As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks

• Teaching a 12 hour load each semester
• Serving as an academic advisor to students in the Sociology and Human Services programs.
• Serving on faculty committees as assigned by the Chair of Faculty Council. 
• Demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development
• Participating in academic conferences
• Assisting in evaluating the course offerings and course requirements of the Human Services program and the Sociology major
• Participating in student recruitment events
• Other duties as assigned by the Vice President and Director of Athletics

Education: Doctorate in Sociology, or a terminal degree in a related human services field

Experience: A doctorate and teaching experience is preferred.
