Job Summary 

Working under the general supervision of the Assistant Athletics Director, Marketing & Creative Services, the incumbent will support the daily marketing operations of the Athletics Department. They will assist in coordinating and implementing the year-round marketing and promotions plan. Additionally, the incumbent will focus on enhancing the fan experience through effective and creative strategies, engage with customers, and promote Long Beach State Athletics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate efforts to enhance attendance, ticket revenue, marketing & promotions, fan experience, and sales to engage students, staff, alumni, supporters and prospective fans: Manage the day-to-day coverage of assigned sports. Direct game coverage for assigned sports and assist as needed in game and special event coverage for additional sports. Facilitate and own all sport-related coverage for assigned sport teams, including creative, digital, social, written, and other emerging content mediums.
  • Development and implementation of in-game planning and promotional efforts for assigned sports and special events that enhance the image and awareness of LBSU Athletics with a key focus on maximizing the fan experience: Management of athletics marketing student internship program.
  • Develop and improve campus relationships to drive interest and attendance amongst the student body: Fulfill sponsorship obligations, including print materials, game-day promotions, on-court promotions, and game-day messaging.

Ability to develop ongoing relationships with season ticket holders, local community, and donors. Ability to guide others in policy and procedures in support of the athletics department and the university. Maneuvering comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related organizational dynamics. Consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances and thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. Strong customer service skills over the telephone, in person, and through written communication.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience in marketing, business administration, sport administration, or a related field required.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,666 - $5,166 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,949 - $7,143 per month.

Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Long Beach State Athletics is committed to following NCAA, Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rules and regulations. Therefore, the incumbent is required to maintain a working knowledge of these rules and regulations.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Due to the nature of this position, current CSULB employees are subject to a criminal record check unless they have successfully completed a criminal background check through CSULB within the past 12 months.
