REPORTS TO: Vice President for Student Life
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
The Director of Health Services reports to the Vice President for Student Life. The Director of Health Services is responsible for the leadership, development, and implementation of a comprehensive health and wellness plan serving on campus students, faculty and staff. The Director will provide vision, program development and assessment focusing on health examinations/records/reporting and collaboration with contracted health practitioners; develop treatment or therapy plans pertaining to the health of patients including referrals; and create educational workshops or trainings regarding community health and safety issues. The position involves the collaboration with administration of the infectious disease plan for the university, management of day-to-day operations of the Health Services office and the administration of the budget.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administers and interprets strategies and local, state and federal guidelines regarding health emergencies, including preparation for infectious diseases, epidemics and pandemics.
- Provides supervision and leadership in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all programs and services offered by the Health Services office.
- Manages all budgets and purchases efficiently and effectively.
- Completes regularly required reporting to DHEC and to university websites.
- Provides individual and group workshops to promote a healthy campus environment.
- Performs health examinations and assessments.
- Consults and collaborates with physician to perform medical procedures. Coordinates with physician scheduling for the semester.
- Determines the necessity for an evaluation for antibiotic therapy, antidepressant therapy or other therapies, as needed pertaining to the health of the patients and refers them as needed for treatment.
- Provides basic first aid. Including but not limited to administration of over the counter medication, following the standing orders provided by the campus NP. Dressing wounds. Removing sutures.
- Teaches BBP and other health related workshops as requested.
- Plans, implements, communicates preventative health maintenance, educates students, parents and faculty as such.
- Coordinates medical treatment with the director of Residence Life, Residence Assistants, athletic staff, faculty, and school administration as necessary for students.
- Oversee the health records management system: Confidentiality, documentation, storage, purging, destruction, release, freshman health forms and immunization records and class excuses/absence reports for medical reasons and coordinates with professors.
- Stays current with state and federal laws regarding health centers and maintains professional status and continuing education credits.
- Available as needed for students/employees on call.
- Supervises student workers, and may train and/or supervise additional RN staffing.
- Provides monthly activity reports to Vice President for Student Life.
- Coordinates with other campus offices on campus health and safety issues. Including attending various campus events as requested to serve as a medical professional.
- Oversee contractual relationship with Anmed Healthy Business
- Assisting NP during clinic hours weekly.
- Overseeing compliance to applicable OSHA, FERPA and HIPPA regulations.
- Oversee all campus Health Center announcements and any written material distributed campus wide by the Health Center.
- Develop and revise policies and procedures on an as needed basis
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, visitors and vendors to promote a healthy campus environment.
- Coordinates with other campus offices on campus health and safety issues – including, but not limited to involvement in Title IX Committee meetings/initiatives. Attends various campus events as deemed appropriate by VP of Student Life to serve as a medical professional for emergency aid – i.e., graduation/ student orientation. May assist with coordination of community emergency personnel for other campus events as requested.
- In collaboration with Counseling Services, coordinates annual campus wide Wellness Week activities.
- Oversee data collection regarding health information of the student population and utilize this data to better target student health needs.
- Develop, implement and evaluate long and short term goals of the department yearly in consultation with the Director of Counseling and the VP for Student Life.
- Take positive steps (workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.) to promote the acquisition of new knowledge and opportunities for professional development.
- Serve as a resource for students, faculty and staff as needed.
- Performs other assigned duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A Registered Nursing (RN) degree is required (Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree preferred). The ideal candidate will also have two years of demonstrated training and/or successful administrative leadership in higher education in the areas of health or wellness.
- Documented excellence in leadership with proven ability to support a team approach to planning and effective coordination of programs.
- Demonstrated ability to make well-informed decisions, solve problems, and coordinate a variety of activities and tasks.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to develop efficient and effective systems for the implementation of policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated high integrity, and the ability to manage confidential issues and build effective relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in the performance of duties.
- SWU is committed to maximizing the use of technology in its daily operations and in achieving its strategic goals; the ideal candidate will be familiar with integrated database and statistical management systems, including reporting, and have a high comfort level with web-based, mobile and PC applications, including but not limited to, the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

- Physical/Environmental Requirements.
- Visual acuity necessary to do editorial work, proof documents, and manage files. Requires ability to sit for periods of time in an interior office environment. May require infrequent lifting of objects up to 10 pounds, and occasionally items up to 20 pounds.
- Requires limited travel and flexibility to work outside of the regular work schedule.
- Pre-employment Screening. Employment is contingent on the completion a criminal background screening.
