West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a remote or on-campus Teaching Assistant Professor position in its CACREP-Accredited Master's level Counseling program, beginning in August 2026. This faculty position is housed in the School of Education and Counseling within the College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University. This faculty member will provide leadership and support as a Core Faculty member in our program's School Counseling specialization, through both teaching and service responsibilities. This position is eligible for a remote or an on-campus faculty appointment.

Appointment

The position appointment is designated to be either remote or in-person on WVU's Morgantown campus beginning August 15, 2026 (opportunity for a January 2026 start is negotiable). Summer teaching opportunities may be available based on course demand. Teaching positions at WVU are full-time, non-tenure track, with no research component. A remote faculty assignment will require presence in-person on the Morgantown campus twice per academic year for "immersion week" activities for online students.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly qualified individual who will contribute to the mission of the institution by working with faculty, learners, and community partners in a dynamic and collaborative environment. As a teaching-track faculty member, the successful candidate will teach courses in the Counseling M.S. program, with a particular focus in the School Counseling specialization and some coursework that also serves students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization. In addition, they will contribute to student growth and development through student advising, supervision, and mentorship.

For a remote faculty assignment, the course teaching responsibilities will consist of online coursework, though will require presence in-person on the Morgantown campus twice per academic year for "immersion week" activities for online students. Immersion week is a week-long, in-person, training requirement for all online students. For an on-campus faculty assignment, the course teaching responsibilities will be a mix of in-person and online coursework.

The successful candidate will also be expected to provide service to the school, college, university, and profession. The service responsibilities could include program coordination and/or clinical field placement coordination depending on previous experience.

Qualifications

Minimal qualifications require that the applicant meet the 2024 CACREP standards definition for a Core Faculty member: (1) have an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program; or (2) have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; or (3) have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master's program prior to July 1, 2017; or (4) have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018.

Additional required qualifications include:

  • Ability to serve as primary Core Faculty in the School Counseling specialization.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health, possibly those in counseling skills and techniques, clinical counseling courses, and research methods.
  • Demonstrated proof of creative and impactful teaching with adult learners, including proficiency in online instructional formats.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, and lead.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of West Virginia or home state.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a School Counselor within the K-12 school system.
  • Prior experience serving as a track coordinator and/or clinical field placement coordinator in a CACREP-accredited counselor education program.
