Job Duties:
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and design curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction by coordinating multi-section courses to ensure consistency in content, assessment, and instructional quality
  • Collaborate with department instructional academic staff and faculty to develop teaching strategies and enhance curriculum development
  • Facilitate classroom, online, and/or discussion instruction, including assessment of student performance, by teaching a 3-3 load each year (typically 9 credits in each semester). This includes teaching lower-division courses and, when needed, selected upper-division or graduate courses at the discretion of the department chair. This may also include teaching a large lecture course
  • Coordinate lower-division mathematics courses each semester, to contribute to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the department's undergraduate teaching mission
  • Supervise graduate teaching assistants involved in development or delivery of instruction, including training and mentoring by providing guidance on pedagogy, classroom management, and effective teaching practices
  • Contribute to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications, presentations, and departmental service activities that support student success
  • Actively liaise with key stakeholders such as other educational institutions in the local area (Milwaukee Public Schools and the Milwaukee Area Technical College), the Student Success Center, advising units, and other academic units
  • Advise students on academic and career direction(s) within the mathematical sciences

Job Summary
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee invites applications for a Teaching Associate Professor position, beginning August 2026. Appointments are based on exceptional teaching and leadership promise, with preference given to candidates demonstrating strong collegiate pedagogical and mathematical content knowledge.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in Mathematics or Statistics by the time of the appointment.
  • Demonstrated record of high-quality teaching and student engagement of undergraduate mathematics courses.
  • At least five years of experience teaching as the primary instructor, mathematics courses at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a university educational setting, such as supervision and mentoring of graduate teaching assistants or fellow instructors OR course coordination of multiple sections.
  • Strong collaboration, organizational, and communication skills - particularly within a diverse academic environment.
This position requires the employee to perform their duties on-site at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a typical business week schedule (Monday through Friday approximately 8:30 am to 5pm).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and willingness to support department initiative and innovative teaching practices, including but not limited to; aligning learning outcomes across courses, alternative assessment and grading schemes, active learning, creating a sense of community and belonging in the classroom, accessible course materials or universal design elements, and open educational resources (OER) adoption
  • Demonstrated excellence or strong potential in teaching graduate level mathematics
  • Demonstrated curriculum and/or course design experience.
  • Experience teaching or coordinating a large lecture course.
