About the role:
Do you have a passion for laboratory-based teaching and for supporting the next generation of biomedical scientists?
The Faculty of Medicine is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow to join a team of passionate educators teaching on our BSc Medical Biosciences programme (BMB), and to contribute to the development of a new MSci in Medical Science & Innovation. You will work collaboratively with academic, technical and professional services staff to help design and deliver a high-quality learning opportunities for students.
What you would be doing:
You will work alongside an enthusiastic and high-performing teaching team to deliver and support teaching on the BSc Medical Biosciences programme.
A key element of the role will involve supervising students in the Lab Pod modules, which take place in state-of-the-art teaching laboratories where students explore research hypotheses. In addition to teaching in Lab Pods, you will support teaching and assessment in one of the programme’s theoretical modules.
You will also contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of a new undergraduate science and innovation programme, developing teaching sessions and programme resources and supporting teaching and learning opportunities, including course evaluations.
What we are looking for:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering or related areas)
- Completion of, or working towards, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or other recognised HE teaching qualification
- Extensive research laboratory experience
- Experience in two of the following techniques: Western blot, qPCR, mammalian tissue culture and cell viability assays, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy or bacterial cloning
- Teaching or supervision experience in Higher Education, in a laboratory or classroom setting
