The Simulated Participant Program is an essential component of education at Bond University. Simulated Participants (SPs) are lay people who are trained to present various symptoms or concerns to a health professions student or practitioner. SPs at Bond are recruited from the community. They represent different parts of society, and vary in age, culture, language, ethnicity, and life experience. SPs are committed to making a difference in the education and communication skills of our future healthcare professionals.

The Teaching Fellow SP will work as part of a team of 4 Teaching Fellows. Key relationships of the role include the Simulated Participant Program Lead, Senior Curriculum Officer, Faculty academics, sessional and professional staff, and Simulated Participants, to facilitate the practical teaching across the Medical and Allied Health Programs.

Activities undertaken by this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Scenario design and authenticity, including moulage, special effects makeup, and adoption of other leading technical and educational initiatives to enhance the authenticity of teaching
  • Professional development and training for Faculty educators and Simulated Participants.
  • Quality Assurance activities to ensure subject content and material is of the highest standard.
  • Research and development of novel teaching adjuncts, such as 3D printing or other creative modalities

The role will play a key part in coordinating and leading development of moulage and special effects makeup with SPs in their participation in Simulations, OSCEs and other assessments, above the day-to-day practical sessions that form part of each program.

About the person

A Teaching Fellow must also have 4 years of tertiary education or equivalent. 

The Teaching Fellow will bring to the position strong communication skills and creativity, as well as a commitment to education and providing students with the best experience in their learning journey. We are looking for someone who has creativity and skills related to special effects makeup or moulage, who is able to drive related research and development for curriculum and education.

Salary details

The salary for this part-time (0.4 FTE) position commences at $38,818.58 per annum (Full-time Equivalent is $97,046.45 per annum), plus 12% superannuation per annum.
