Job Duties
The Department of English at East Carolina University (english.ecu.edu) is seeking to fill two positions with the title of Teaching Instructor, Senior Teaching Instructor, Master Teaching Instructor, Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, Teaching Professor (depending upon qualifications) specializing in composition to begin in August 2026. This full-time non-tenure-track position is for fall and spring semesters of the 2026-2027 academic year only, with the possibility of subsequent appointments. The full-time teaching load is typically four courses per semester. Teaching will consist of face-to-face courses, with the possibility that some online courses may be assigned, depending on department and university need. Depending upon a candidates credentials, as well as the needs in the department, the Chair may assign other courses besides composition. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications, and full-time positions include benefits.

Minimum Education/Experience
For an appointment as Teaching Instructor, Senior Teaching Instructor, or Master Teaching Instructor - MA in English or a related field, including but not limited to Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, Technical Communication.
For an appointment as Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor - PhD or MFA in English or a related field, including but not limited to Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, Technical Communication.
Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of and experience in teaching courses in first-year writing and writing about the disciplines.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of and experience in teaching courses in technical and professional communication such as business writing and scientific writing, and knowledge of and experience with online teaching and online pedagogies and technologies.
