Position Summary
This position will support the department by providing support for a newborn screening research study. The candidate is responsible for recruiting and obtaining informed consent from mothers who have recently delivered a baby for the GUARDIAN newborn screening study; communicate with the newborn screening staff to mark newborn screening specimens for testing.

Salary Range: $55,112.05 - $55,112.05
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Responsibilities
- The primary role of the Tech B will be to recruit and obtain informed consent from mothers who have recently delivered a baby for the GUARDIAN newborn screening study.
- Communicate with the newborn screen staff to mark newborn screening specimens for testing.
- Accurate record who does and does not consent to testing and communicate this back to the study team.
- Determine why potential participants decline enrollment if they decline.
- Call out normal results to families.
- Upload results into the electronic health record.
- Enter data into the study data base and attend team meetings.
- Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in biotechnology.
- One year of related experience is preferred.
- Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skill.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred.
Other Requirements
- Candidate must Successfully undergo a drug screening test and a background check prior to receiving a final offer of employment. All background checks for support staff positions will be initiated centrally by the Columbia University Human Resources Background Check (BGC) Team. In compliance with New York City’s Fair Chance Act (Background checks are completed in two stages): The Pre-Offer: Verifies Education and Employment history Once employment and education credentials have been verified in a Pre-Offer Background Check, the University may extend an offer of employment. If the candidate accepts, the University then conducts a Post-Offer Criminal Background Check. The post-offer: includes criminal and sexual offender background checks.
