Temporary Position Summary
This position reports to the Director of the Counseling Center and provides solution-focused brief therapy services to students, provides personalized plans designed to help students meet their short-term personal goals, shares the 24-hour on-call coverage throughout the year, participates in psychoeducational and outreach activities, programming, and planning that ensures the effective and efficient delivery of services to students.
This position will also require the function of resource development, identification and updating of campus and community-based resources for clinical referrals, to support mental health service delivery and continuity of care. The ideal candidate will have the capabilities to operate consistently as a strong, yet flexible team member, with electronic mental health record skills, and to contribute to the construction of innovative techniques, strategies, and interventions, to support the behavioral health of students and to consult with members of the college community regarding behavioral health issues.
Temporary Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide individual psychotherapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach services to Spelman College students.
- Participate in the Counseling Center's on-call rotation, including emergency response, hospitalization coordination, medication referrals/consultations, and after-hours support as needed.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date clinical documentation in accordance with Counseling Center policies, ethical standards, and state and federal regulations.
- Develop and facilitate support groups, psychoeducational groups, workshops, classroom presentations, residence hall programs, and campus-wide mental health outreach efforts. - Provide consultation and training to campus partners such as faculty, staff, student leaders, peer educators, and residential life teams.
- Contribute to departmental planning, program development, assessment efforts, and activities that support the effective functioning and growth of the Counseling Center.
- Identify, develop, and maintain updated campus and community referral resources to support continuity of care for students.
- Participate in campus and Student Affairs committees, working groups, and wellness initiatives as requested. - If eligible, provide clinical supervision to one or two graduate student interns in accordance with licensure requirements.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in social work, counseling, mental health, or a related behavioral health field required. Must hold an active associate-level license in the state of Georgia (e.g., Licensed Master Social Worker [LMSW], Associate Professional Counselor [APC], or equivalent) and have a minimum of one year of post-graduate clinical experience while under supervision toward independent licensure. Must be in good standing with the applicable Georgia licensing board and actively working toward full independent licensure (LCSW, LPC, or Licensed Psychologist).
Preferred Qualifications
This position requires knowledge of systems approaches, women's issues, and race and ethnicity issues. Incumbent should be particularly strong in working with African-American women. The duties of this position require someone who has demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of a diverse population.
The incumbent should be self- motivated, have high ethical standards, and be flexible in schedules and methods. This position requires the ability to work with minimum supervision. This position requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. The incumbent should be able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, faculty, staff, parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the general community.
This position also requires the ability to effectively present information to administrators, faculty and the president. To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Power Point, Word, and Excel) to produce correspondence, memos, e-mails, and maintain client records.
Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions
Must possess and maintain all appropriate licenses required to provide clinical services in the state of Georgia. For associate-level candidates, this includes holding an active associate-level license (e.g., LMSW, APC, or equivalent) and being authorized to provide clinical services under supervision in accordance with Georgia licensing board requirements.
