Job Summary
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. This position is focused on the energy and thermal-fluid wider area of Mechanical Engineering and its applications.
Preference will be given to candidates specializing in research and applications focusing on areas such as (i) Renewable and sustainable energy generation, storage, and distribution, (ii) Energy management in buildings and structures and smart HVAC systems, (iii) innovative technology integration and combination with the energy and thermal-fluid areas. We are also interested in applications and developments involving artificial intelligence, data analytics, and the energy-water-food nexus. Outstanding candidates in other related areas of research, will also be considered. Candidates with postdoctoral research experience or prior experience working on funded research are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and research and the ability to build and grow research collaborations. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong potential to establish and grow sustainable externally funded research programs. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for Rising STARs funding of up to $300,000 through the University of Texas System Science and Technology Acquisition and Retention (STARs) program to support the establishment of new research programs.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses
- Participate in curriculum development
- Develop and grow research program
Required Qualifications
- An earned Bachelor and doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent are required.
- Doctoral candidates who plan to graduate before the above start date will also be considered.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
