Faculty Position - Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

The University of Delaware

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at the University of Delaware invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank faculty position. The University of Delaware combines a rich history in chemical engineering with a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education, and scholarly excellence. We offer a dynamic and collaborative research and innovation culture that attracts talented and diverse graduate students, undergraduate students, faculty, and staff. The main campus in Newark, Delaware provides the amenities of a vibrant college town with convenient access to the major cities of the East Coast. CBE at the University of Delaware is housed in the renowned Alan Colburn Lab, the state-of-the-art Harker Lab, and the newly opened Ammon Pinizzotto Biopharmaceutical (known as “A.P. Bio”) Lab on the growing 272-Acre Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) campus, home to numerous startup and multi-national companies.

We are looking for candidates who will contribute through high-quality research/innovation, teaching, and service to the continued improvement of the profession and our department’s overall standing and impact. For decades, our graduate program has been among the top ten in the country, and our undergraduate program is ranked fourth in the nation according to the recent U.S. News & World Report rankings. Our research spans diverse areas of chemical engineering science—catalysis and reaction engineering, process systems engineering, energy, soft matter, polymers, biomolecular engineering, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena—and has been at the forefront of innovation in these domains. While applications in all research areas will be considered, we particularly seek applicants with expertise in two areas. 1. AI / ML / automation / modeling / data science, and 2. Electrocatalysis / electrochemical / catalysis.

REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. or equivalent in chemical engineering or a related field.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will be expected to develop and lead a vigorous, nationally and internationally recognized research program; teach and advise students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; and participate in and contribute to the departmental and larger professional communities.

APPLICATION: Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a description of research and teaching interests, and the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of at least 3 references. Letters of recommendation will be requested at a later stage in the process. Review of applications will begin on January 15, 2026, and continue until the position is filled. The candidate’s curriculum vitae and letters of recommendation will be shared with the department faculty.
