Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Communication Studies (Forensics Coach)
Position Overview
This is a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track faculty position at Irvine Valley College.
The ideal candidate is an equity-minded individual committed to creating opportunities in Communication Studies for historically underserved students, anti-racist pedagogy, student-centered teaching, and collaboration.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend forensics tournaments at local, regional, state, and national levels.
- Coach speech and debate team students for oral interpretation of literature, platform speaking, limited preparation events, and debate.
- Teach Communication Studies and related courses to a diverse student population.
- Instruct and assist diverse students through preparation of course materials, effective teaching, and critical feedback.
- Develop culturally relevant course content and responsive pedagogical techniques.
- Participate in curriculum development, committees, professional development, co-curricular activities, SLOs assessment.
- Maintain office hours, provide college service, stay current in discipline and technologies.
- Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must meet one of:
A. Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication.
OR
B. Bachelor's in any above AND Master's in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English.
OR
C. Equivalent combination (requires Supplemental Application). - Commitment to equity and diversity, sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of community college students.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in alternative pedagogical approaches and collaborative involvement.
- Experience coaching forensics, attending/hosting tournaments, active in forensics community.
- Teaching experience in Public Speaking, Argumentation & Debate, Persuasion, Interpersonal/Intercultural Communication, Forensics, etc.
- Experience in stage management, theater courses, coordinating Career Education, managing productions.
