Tenure Track Faculty Position in English Language Arts/ Literacy Education

The Division of Curriculum and Teaching (C&T) at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education (GSE) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in English Language Arts/Literacy Education. The position begins in September 2026. This faculty member will teach and mentor students in Adolescent English Language Arts Education, Childhood Education, and Innovation in Curriculum and Instruction (ICI) PhD programs. We seek a scholar with a strong record or demonstrated potential of excellence in research, teaching, and service, and a deep commitment to social justice and urban education. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of the Division and the Graduate School of Education through active research, high-quality teaching, program coordination, advising, and collaborative service.
Position Responsibilities
Research
- Maintain an active and visible research agenda with a clear focus on social justice in English Language Arts or Literacy Education.
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals and seek external funding.
- Engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative research with colleagues within and beyond C&T and GSE.
Teaching & Advising
- Teach 15 credits per academic year (fall/spring)
- Utilize diverse teaching modalities, including in-person, hybrid, synchronous, and asynchronous formats
- Advise and mentor both master’s and doctoral students
- Teach primarily at Fordham’s Lincoln Center Campus in Manhattan, NY.
Program Leadership
- Serve as Program Coordinator of English Language Arts Education at the adolescent and childhood levels.
- Recruit, advise, and support teacher candidates and doctoral students in the area of English Language Arts / Literacy Education.
- Review applications and participate in admissions and recruitment efforts (e.g., Information Sessions).
- Identify, mentor, and evaluate adjunct faculty in English Language Arts/Literacy Education
- Collaborate on accreditation activities, including data collection and reporting.
- Represent the ELA program at Divisional and school-wide meetings and initiatives.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in ELA Education, Literacy Education, or a related field (ABD will be considered with expected completion by August 2026)
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to social justice and urban education, and a proven record of applying this understanding through teaching, scholarship, and/or service that advances equity and inclusion in urban school settings.
- At least three years of teaching experience in K-12 education in the area of ELA/Literacy Education
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid teacher certification in English Language Arts or a related field
- Experience with academic program coordination and leadership.
- Experience teaching in teacher preparation education, including online or hybrid modalities.
- A record of peer-reviewed publications and commitment to ongoing research.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Educational Technologies in ELA, Literacy, and Multilingualism.
