Tenure Track Faculty Position in Spanish (20th-21st Century Caribbean Studies Specialist)
The Department of Spanish at the College of the Holy Cross seeks a dynamic, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in 20th/21st-century Spanish-speaking Caribbean literature and cultural production, beginning in August 2026. We invite applications from candidates whose research and teaching on the Caribbean engage with one or more of the following areas: health humanities, disability studies, social justice, environmental studies, non-Western epistemologies, or Afro-descendant cultural practices, including healing systems, spirituality, media, and performance. Experience in designing-or a demonstrated interest in developing-community-based learning opportunities that address health disparities and systemic inequities is also highly desirable. While the position emphasizes the Hispanophone Caribbean, comparative approaches encompassing other Caribbean linguistic or geographical regions are also encouraged.
Applicants must have experience and a strong commitment to teaching Spanish at all levels. Candidates with a PhD in Spanish or related fields will be considered. The successful candidate will regularly teach courses across the Spanish curriculum, including language courses at the 100 or 200 level, as well as composition and conversation, culture, literature, and advanced seminars in their areas of expertise, all with a strong commitment to inclusive pedagogies. Additionally, they will contribute to the Latin American, Latinx, and Caribbean Studies (LALC) program and other interdisciplinary programs at the College.
This position carries a 3-2 teaching load with a research leave prior to tenure review of either a full year at 80% salary or a semester at full salary, and generous sabbatical and fellowship leaves for tenured faculty. To enable a smooth transition to Holy Cross, new full-time tenure-track Assistant Professors receive start-up funding to support their research and professional development and have a one-course reduction in their first year of teaching (i.e., 2-2). This position offers full benefits and a starting salary in the range of $101,850 to $103,850. Faculty at the College cultivate a richly diverse academic community, pursue innovative teaching, and create high-impact scholarship. To learn more about faculty life at the College and in the Worcester area, candidates are encouraged to see the Resources for Prospective Faculty on our Faculty Openings page.
