Overview

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is excited to begin the search for a TES 4-H Agent Assistant!

The Agent Assistant will work with schools and volunteers to coordinate and/or facilitate in-school, after-school, and special interest community 4-H clubs. The Agent Assistant will serve as a liaison with schools and surrounding community; promote 4-H and foster member and parent participation; keep 4-Hers informed about upcoming events and deadlines; perform 4-H enrollment data entry; assist with day camp opportunities; work with the County 4-H Team when planning programs and events.

The Agent Assistant will support the 4-H Extension Agent or County Extension Director during 4-H programs; assist with county and regional 4-H events as-needed and lead 4-H in-school club meetings and programs.

The primary focus of this position will be conducting 4-H programming in the St. Clair County Schools.

Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

Responsibilities

  • The Agent Assistant will also assist in preparing curriculum, implementing youth activities, and entering enrollment data.
  • Must have good organizational and basic technology skills.
  • Will assist and/or work with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Foundation Agent in activities that benefit the youth of the county.
  • May also do office work as needed, such as answer phones, make copies, and assist office visitors.

The majority of the work for this position will be done in the classroom(s) of schools located throughout St. Clair County.

Some nights/weekend work will be required.

  • The successful applicant must have a demonstrated interest in working with youth ages 5-18 concerning a variety of issues.
  • Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of youth educational sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES).
  • Must have a sincere interest in working with volunteers and professional staff in an educational setting, and the ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers while nurturing positive self-esteem, decision-making and leadership skills; ability to follow instructions related to work with minimum supervision from professional staff.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and professionally with families and co-workers; must have a willingness to become familiar with and work within the ACES philosophy and guidelines.
  • Must have effective communication and human relations skills; a working knowledge in operating a personal computer (i.e. software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) are all critical.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation. Travel to program sites is reimbursed monthly in accordance with Auburn University & ACES policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience.
  • 19 years or older

Substitution allowed for Experience:

  • Degrees may be accepted in lieu of experience.

Minimum Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license
