The Costume Shop Manager oversees all aspects of the Theatre Program's Costume Shop and Costume-related production elements.
Responsibilities:
General
- Maintain at least 12 weekly hours in the Costume Shop during the academic year (Mon-Thurs between 9am-7pm) and during May/June when the Summer Repertory Series is scheduled
- Recruit, Train, Coordinate/Schedule, and Oversee Costume Shop Student Workers
- Manage and Train Theatre Costume Crew for all academic year productions
- Purchase & Maintain Supplies
- Manage allocated Costume Budget for each production and work successfully within Theatre Program's annual allocated budget
- Attend Theatre Faculty/Staff Meetings when scheduled
- Manage Rental and Lending Services
- Maintain Physical Space, Costumes, Supplies and Equipment
- Monitor Health & Safety Issues
Design/Mentoring
- Design/Coordinate all Costumes, Hair and Makeup for up to 4 annual academic year productions (September-April), which may include mentoring and oversight of Student or Guest Designers/Coordinators
- 2 Otteson Theatre mainstage productions directed by Faculty (1 each semester)
- Up to 2 student-directed or course-related productions/festivals in the Studio Theatre (1 each semester)
- Design/Coordinate Costumes, Hair and Makeup for the Summer Repertory Series (May-June), which may include mentoring and oversight of Student or Guest Designers/Coordinators
- Direct and execute Costume Construction, Fittings and Alterations
- Create and Maintain Costume Build Calendar and coordinate with Production Manager
- Attend weekly or bi-weekly Production meetings
Instruction
- Teach THE120: Costumes and Makeup annually (2 credits - Tues/Thurs from 2:00-3:30pm)
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required; BFA or MFA preferred
- Expertise in costume construction
- Proficiency in stage makeup
- Basic knowledge of hair styling and/or wigs
- Experience working with Theatre generalist students with different skill levels
Human Relations Skills:
- Ability to function effectively as part of a production team
- Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, socio-economic background, or job type.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Sensitivity to the needs of students in a liberal arts environment
- Positive attitude towards the university, department, and program is essential
- Ability to conduct self in a productive and professional manner at all times
