Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Biomedical Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ottawa is seeking applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Biomedical Engineering. The Chair will advance innovative solutions at the intersection of engineering, health sciences, and digital technology, with expertise in areas such as tissue engineering, artificial organs, biomedical devices, biomechatronics, biorobotics, biosignals, biosensing, or biomaterials. The Chairholder will develop transformative technologies to improve patient care and health outcomes and will become a member of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Biomedical Engineering (OCIBME), drawing on expertise from the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and institutions like the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute.
The Chair will take up a tenure-track appointment in one of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation, or the School for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Located on the unceded territory of the Anishinaabe-Algonquin people, the University of Ottawa is a top research-intensive university and the largest bilingual university in North America.
Tier 2 Chairs are for emerging researchers and are tenable for five years and renewable once. Candidates should be at least assistant or associate professors or possess equivalent qualifications. Skills requirements include a Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline with application to Biomedical Engineering, superior research achievements, interdisciplinary collaborations, teaching and graduate student training, ability to obtain external research funds, and excellent communication skills in English or French. Active knowledge of the second official language is required for tenure, and bilingualism is an asset. Candidates must be active or eligible for P.Eng. license.
Duties include teaching, scholarly activities such as research, academic service, and graduate student supervision. Rank and salary: New tenure-track appointment with salary starting at $99,377 for Assistant Professor and $109,776 for Associate Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
