Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Biomedical Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ottawa is seeking applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Biomedical Engineering. This chair will advance innovative solutions at the intersection of engineering, health sciences, and digital technologies, with expertise in areas such as tissue engineering, artificial organs, biomedical devices, biomecatronics, biorobotics, biosignals, biodetection, or biomaterials. The successful candidate will develop transformative technologies to improve patient care and clinical outcomes and will join the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Biomedical Engineering, collaborating with institutions like the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute.
The position is a permanent professorial role in one of the departments within the Faculty of Engineering, such as Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation, or School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Tier 2 Chairs are for five years and renewable once, with funding of $100,000 per year from the Canada Research Chairs program, plus additional research allowances.
Prerequisites: A PhD in a relevant engineering discipline with applications to biomedical engineering; an excellent research record with interdisciplinary collaborations; commitment to teaching and graduate student supervision; ability to secure external funding; effective communication in English or French; conditional permanence on active knowledge of the other official language; bilingualism is an asset; eligibility for a professional engineering license.
Duties: Teaching activities; scholarly activities including research; service to the university community; supervision of graduate students.
Salary: Starting at $99,377 for Assistant Professor and $109,776 for Associate Professor, competitive based on qualifications and experience.
Location: Faculty of Engineering, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, ON K1N 6N5.
