Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Law
Osgoode Hall Law School at York University invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Law. This tenure-stream appointment is set to commence on July 1, 2026, or soon after, contingent upon successful nomination to the Canada Research Chairs program (https://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca).
The role seeks an outstanding emerging scholar exploring the transformative impact of AI on legal systems, practices, and regulation. Tier 2 Chairs are for exceptional emerging scholars within 10 years of their highest degree, with potential for renewal and enhanced research support. This position is open to qualified researchers who self-identify as women or gender non-conforming, as part of York’s Affirmative Action program. Candidates are encouraged to discuss any career interruptions due to life circumstances.
The position is partially funded by the Connected Minds program, offering enhanced start-up funds and engagement in research on humans and intelligent technologies.
Qualifications:
- Degree: Must hold a JD and a graduate degree in law or a relevant discipline; a complete or near-complete SJD/PhD is preferred.
- Scholarship: Demonstrated record of innovative research in AI and the Future of Law, with potential for external funding and international contributions.
- Teaching: Evidence of excellence in teaching at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels, including involvement in JD, LLM, and PhD programs.
