Position Description
UC Cooperative Extension Specialist- Coastal Hydrology, Agriculture, and Water Resilience Located at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR), in collaboration with the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for a UC Cooperative Extension Specialist at the Assistant rank.
The specialist will focus on integrated water resources management and hydrologic processes in coastal areas, addressing needs such as groundwater overdraft, saltwater intrusion, and supporting California's Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. The position involves conducting research and educational programs, publishing results, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct transdisciplinary applied research on coastal hydrology and agricultural management issues, including climate adaptation, drought management, groundwater sustainability, and more. Extend knowledge through outreach to advisors, agencies, and the public via meetings, workshops, and media. Collaborate with UC Cooperative Extension networks, UCSC faculty, and external partners. Publish in relevant journals.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Education: A Ph.D. in Water Resources or related field is required. Key qualifications include experience in water resources research, leading collaborative teams, excellent communication skills, and a strong publication record. Desired experience includes integrated research, stakeholder engagement, and securing grants.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range: $87,700 to $114,800 annually. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, holidays, and sabbatical eligibility. The position is a two-year renewable term appointment with potential for indefinite status.
