Tutorial Fellow in English Literature and Associate Professor (or Professor) of Literature in English
Salary: Salary on scale within the range £58,265 to £77,645 p.a., plus a College housing allowance of £14,677 p.a. An additional allowance of £3,199 is payable upon award of Recognition of Distinction (i.e. the title of Professor).
Start Date: 1 September 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
Balliol College, Oxford, and the Faculty of English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate as Tutorial Fellow and Professor or Associate Professor of English, with effect from 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The post combines a Fellowship at Balliol College with membership of the Faculty of English. Applications are invited from well-qualified candidates with expertise in any aspect(s) of literature in English of the long nineteenth century (approximately 1780-1914). The successful candidate will be expected to teach across the full range of the undergraduate syllabus in the period 1760 to the present and will be able to enthuse and inspire students at both undergraduate and graduate level through tutorials, classes, lectures and supervisions.
