University of Sussex EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowship Call

The University of Sussex is pleased to announce a call for Engineering, Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowships. The EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowship is a prestigious scheme aimed at supporting the best doctoral researchers whose PhD studies were funded in part or entirely by the EPSRC. In this round, Sussex is offering 3 x 6-month Fellowships to enable outstanding researchers to take their first steps towards an independent research career in Science and Engineering.

Due to funding constraints, the fellowship must run from 1st October 2025 to 31st March 2026.

You can use the Fellowship to:

• undertake significant new research;
• complete key publications resulting from your PhD;
• develop research networks; and
• facilitate knowledge transfer or research impact activities

About you

You are eligible to apply if you:

• Are proposing Fellowship projects that lie within the EPSRC remit. At Sussex, these projects will be hosted by the departments of: Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
• Have received EPSRC studentship funding ending no earlier than 30th June 2022 (from an EPSRC DTP or CDT, an AI CDT, an EPSRC iCASE award).
• Have submitted your PhD thesis in the UK before 1st October 2025, the start date of the fellowship.
• Are able to start your 6-month fellowship on 1st October 2025.

You will need to email our EPSRC application form and an academic CV to pgr-scholarships@sussex.ac.uk by midday on 3rd September 2025. Your proposed Sussex mentor will need to email the Letter of Support and Sussex will contact your PhD supervisor for a reference. You should make contact with your proposed mentor as early as possible in the application process to discuss how they can support the application process.

Shortlisted candidates invited to interview: by 8th September 2025

Interviews: 10th - 17th September 2025

Successful candidates notified: Around 19th September 2025
